PRINCIPLES OF PUBLIC ADMINISTRATION IN CONTEXT addresses conceptual and contemporary issues confronting governments in the less developed countries especially those in sub Saharan Africa. Virtually all these countries are riddled with poverty and inequality, bad governance, corruption, lack of or weak transparency and accountability, among others. The book details the various reform initiatives being carried out by these countries to improve public service delivery towards good governance and poverty reduction. The cornerstone of these reforms is the New Public Management with all its private sector values being transfused into classical bureaucratic structures. Such transfusions have yielded partial positive results in some areas and failed largely in some other areas like good governance, transparency and accountability, not the least poverty reduction in countries like Nigeria and Democratic Republic of the Congo. Overall, the book provides solid theoretical background necessary for the proper understanding of Public Administration as an academic discipline and a vocation. It points the way to installing efficient, effective, responsive, performance -oriented and accountable public service in Nigeria.
